Relay event to include cancer prevention study
As local Relay for Life events continue, one event this weekend is asking residents to take part in a cancer prevention study.
Each year the American Cancer Society invests millions of dollars into cancer research. Since 1913, the Society has granted more than $3 billion to scientists for hundreds of research projects that have led to numerous breakthroughs and treatments.
Al Stabilitio of the American Cancer Society has embarked on a nationwide study known as the Cancer Prevention Study-3. The goal is to discover how to further prevent and reduce cancer incidences, he said.
CPS-3 is a research program that seeks people from all walks of life. The goal is to enroll 500,000 people from the United States. The purpose is to determine if genetic, environment and lifestyle factors are linked to cancer. Data collected will be compiled and reviewed to find causes of cancer and ways to prevent this disease.
