Penguins’ revival top story in NHL

Someone told me long ago to never use the word ‘‘boring’’ in reference to a story you’re writing.

The fact this column is about hockey probably equates to boring for many readers. Most of you undoubtedly have never tuned into ‘‘Versus,’’ the cable channel that covers the NHL, unless your thing is watching cowboys being tossed off the backs of mad bulls.

If you’re still reading this column beyond the first two paragraphs, you must be among the minority of fans that love this time of the year because of the NHL playoffs. Include me among the rare species in this part of the country that thinks the hockey playoffs are more exciting than the NBA playoffs and regular-season Major League Baseball.

One reason the NHL playoffs are special this year is the emergence of the Pittsburgh Penguins as a contender for the Stanley Cup.
